Occupational health insurance – recognize motivations of companies for a bKV

Occupational health insurance: From cold waves in the winter to rising burn-out numbers. Absences are becoming an ever greater problem for German companies. Estimates assume around 15 days, during which employees reported average sickness last year. 

Sick pay in case of illness but also reduced productivity cause enormous losses – so costs each failed working day a company on average about 300 euros. And the national economy suffers: according to a recent study by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which was published in Handelsblatt in November, was the resulting from reduced productivity economic damage in 2015 at around 113 billion euros.

Successful bKV brokers understand what potential customers are pursuing with the offer: some companies may employ many older workers for whose health they want to do something. Others want to score points over their offspring with attractive extras. And for many, the topic of absenteeism plays a major role – to work out these motivations for a bKV is enormously helpful in sales.

In fact, failures and long illnesses can be significantly reduced by good precautionary measures. Therefore, some bKV insurers offer the early detection of stress factors or targeted coaching aimed at lowering the burnout risk. For example, Barmenia has developed modular fatigue vouchers that provide workers with access to timely counseling and thus promote the proper management of stress. There are also offers such as telemedicine care in cooperation with TeleClinic; it allows access to doctors around the clock and via app.

It is also interesting for intermediaries which industries are most affected by illness-related failures. Last year, for example, the most frequent inscriptions were registered with the Public Administration. BKV providers respond to these differences with specialized offers. Thus, in addition to business with SMEs, public institutions and the public service are interesting target groups.
