“Foods to Eat” and “Foods Not To Eat” to Reduce Acne

Acne and the glycemic load

In order to prevent acne acutely or to fight acne effectively, those foods which can greatly increase the blood glucose level must be avoided.

For the most part, these are also the least recommended and unhealthy foods, mostly carbohydrate or sugar-rich foods. They are called foods with a high glycemic load (GL).

The glycemic load is a value with which the influence of a foodstuff on the blood glucose level and on the subsequent insulin output is indicated, taking into account the carbohydrate content of the food. The latter is then also the difference to the less practice-oriented glycemic index (GI).

While both white bread and cooked carrots have a GI of 70 (it should be clear that cooked carrots are much healthier than white bread), the GL of the two foodstuffs differs considerably – white bread 38.5 and carrots 3.5 – which is very much much more illuminating.

Glycemic load or glycemic index?

Why are the GL and the GI so different? The calculation of the GI was based on a carbohydrate quantity of 50 grams. That is, the test persons had to eat so much of each food until they had eaten 50 grams of carbohydrates with this food.

This is no problem with Weissbrot, since already 90 grams are enough to have 50 grams of carbohydrates intus. But of cooked carrots they had to eat more than one kilogram.

Consequently, knowing the height of the GI does not help if you do not know the amount of food that contains 50 grams of carbohydrates.

GL, on the other hand, reports the influence of the food on the blood glucose level per 100 grams of this food so that the information on the GL can be used very well for the transformation or adaptation of the food plan. If you have only one GI table, you can easily convert the GI to the GL. The formula for this is as follows:

GL = GI divided by 100

multiplied by the amount of carbohydrate per 100 grams of a food

For acne: A GL to 20 is good, a GL over 20 is bad

GL values below 10 are considered good, since foods with such low values have little or no effect on the blood glucose level.

Values between 10 and 20 are considered mediocre and values higher than 20 are classified as bad because they raise the blood glucose level and provoke high insulin output. If an acne is present then such foods should be chosen which have low GL values.

Foods with high GL values include, for example, white rice, breakfast flakes, cakes, pastry and pastries, sugary soft drinks , ice cream, fruit preserves and sugary sweets of all kinds.

Foods with a low GL keep the blood glucose level stable. They mainly include vegetables, most fruits (except dried fruit), nuts, almonds , salads, sprouts , algae and eggs.

Even products made from whole grain cereals, due to their fiber content, significantly affect the blood glucose level as pastries and pasta from white flour.

Acne – Healthy sweets are allowed

So if you have a skin that is prone to acne and at the same time takes food with high GL, it increases the likelihood of developing an acne or strengthens an already existing acne. This is not to say that you can never eat something sweet or never again a breakfast sandwich.

It just means that you should assemble your meals up to a visible improvement in your acne only from foods with a low GL.

In addition, sweets are also made from ingredients which have a relatively low GL, for example, For example, from nuts, almonds, bananas and dried fruits (figs, apples, dry apricots, etc.).

Acne – Two tips to keep the blood glucose level low

In addition, there are two tips on how the blood glucose level – if exceptionally foods with high GL are consumed – can be brought back into balance as quickly as possible. For this purpose the intake of one or two teaspoons of apple cider (in a glass of water) should belong.

Another trick is this: Take a teaspoonful of dietary fiber (eg coconut powder or psyllium ( flea seed powder )). Dietary fibers can reduce the glycemic effect and help stabilize the blood glucose level.

Acne – Is the Antibabypille a Solution?

Acne points to an imbalance in the body, but not to a lack of synthetic hormones – as so many gynecologists want to give the impression.

And so, when the first pickle appears, girls in the early teenagers of 12, 13, and 14 years prescribe the antibacterial system to save them the impure skin appearance . These girls swallow the pill now and the skin will be nice again.

At the beginning, the middle, or the end of the twentieth, the same girls often end up with a problem with the gynecologist. This time it is the chronic headaches , the sexual pain, the bleeding, the unexplained mood fluctuations, etc. The pill is put off in a trial.

The headaches go, the sexual desire comes and the mood fluctuations fly. Everything could be perfect. But then suddenly the acne appears again, to which no one has long thought. And so the women feel as if puberty is returning to them-at least as far as the skin is concerned.

Gynecologists recommend the resuscitation of the pill immediately. But this does not cure the acne. She only suppresses her.

Acne and the apparent world of the pill

The body is in puberty in very many areas in a phase of change. The hormone level also changes and has to find its new equilibrium – which is usually achieved in the course of a few years.

However, if you lack the patience and help with synthetic hormones, your hormonal balance will not be as long as the hormone preparation is taken. The Pill is creating a perfect illusion.

If the pill is then discontinued, one finds oneself in reality again and the organism falls back into the hormonal imbalance, which existed before the pill intake. The body will now take a new approach to overcoming this imbalance on its own.

Whether or not he can do it depends on the patience of those affected. One thing, however, should be clear: a hormone-suppressed acne will not disappear within a few weeks, but it can take many months to years, depending on the food and nutritional requirements.

Once the hormonal balance is established, woman is both going: the acne AND the synthetic hormones with all their side effects.

Acne due to progesterone deficiency?

If acne does not improve despite all efforts, this can only be a superior alternative for women (not for men) and here especially for women in menopause – natural progesterone .

Dr. John R. Lee explains in his book “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause” why some women suddenly suffer from acne at the age of 30 or 40 years ,

The androgen overproduction of these women – according to Dr. Lee – from a progesterone deficiency due to a restricted ovarian function, which then results in increased androgen production.

If progesterone (natural progesterone in the form of creams or oils) is supplemented, then this automatically reduces the androgen level and the skin becomes clean and smooth again. Before experimenting with natural progesterone, however, it is worth taking a close look at the digestive system.

Acne – signs of overloaded discharge organs

Since the skin belongs to one of our largest detoxification organs, it is available when other excretory organs such as the kidneys, the liver and the intestine are overtaxed.

In the case of poor diet, plenty of sugar , tobacco and / or alcohol , little movement, and hardly any sunlight , more toxins, acids, and metabolic end products are produced than the excretory organs can excrete.

At the same time, the prerequisites for a powerful detoxification process (intact intestinal flora, vital substances, sufficient water, sports etc.) are missing. The body is looking for a solution and now discharges the slag from the emergency exits – the follicles in the skin. Pimples, blackheads, pustules and cysts.

This process can be reversed: with a thorough deacidification and detoxification as well as a comprehensive nutritional change. Information on deacidification and detoxification can be found here: Overexcitation and detoxification

Acne – Why the intestine can cause acne

More than seventy years ago, the dermatologists John H. Stokes and Donald M. Pillsbury discussed the influence of the digestive system on other areas of the body.

They defined the term “intestinal-brain-skin-axis” and explained this as follows: Emotional stress and unhealthy diet changed the healthy intestinal flora , reduced intestinal motility, increased the diseased permeability of the intestinal mucosa and led to an overuse of toxins, causing chronic inflammation as well an increased insulin resistance and this in turn could lead to an acne.

Stokes and Pillsbury already recommended the use of Darmbacteria to restore skin health through the intestines.

Seventy years is a long time. But it was only in 2011 that the theses of Stokes and Pillsbury were officially confirmed.

Bowe and Logan wrote in the journal Good Pathogens : Since the intestinal flora and Darmbakterienparaturen positively influenced chronic inflammations, they also reduced oxidative stress, contributed to the regulation of the blood glucose level and the fat content of the skin and even lifted the mood.

All these factors play a prominent role in the development of acne, the condition of the intestinal flora and the intestine has an extraordinary effect on the health of the skin and thus on the healing of an acne. 1

Consequently, intestinal rehabilitation is one of the very first steps in comprehensive acne therapy. You can find information on how to do this

Acne – An Allergy to Iodine?

Acne can also develop due to allergy or food intolerance.

Some people, for example, are very sensitive to the trace element iodine, which is absorbed in much larger quantities because of the extensive iodination of food salt and animal feed. Such an iodine sensitivity can be expressed in a so-called iodine coke.

No milk for acne

Although milk and dairy products generally have a very good image, they can cause acne in some people , in others the acne can at least intensify or prevent their healing.

Milk is the infant food for a calf to grow as quickly as possible. As a matter of fact, milk also contains growth factors, in addition to hormones, which, as we have already pointed out above, lead to an excessive cell division of the keratinocytes, but also to excessive sebum production and (in women) to increased androgen production in the ovaries. 2-6

In acne, therefore, a multi-week experiment with a milk-free diet can determine whether one belongs to the milk-sensitive people. At the latest after three months of milk-free diet, the skin image shows whether the dietary change is appropriate.

Details of how milk and dairy products affect the body so that acne is created, we have explained here: No milk in acne

Acne? – No caffeine

Coffee and other strong caffeine-containing drinks can interfere with the hormonal balance or intensify an existing hormone imbalance and consequently aggravate an acne. It is therefore, if feasible, the best to avoid any stimulants that stimulate the central nervous system.

Acne – If the skin does not like yeast

Brewer’s yeast preparations are often celebrated as THE key to beautiful hair, firm nails and smooth skin. Unfortunately, not a few people are aware that the pimples start to sprout after only a few brewers’ yeast days.

So if you are suffering from acne or have an unclean skin and you are taking yeast preparations at the same time, you should first take them off and observe if there is any improvement in the skin tone.

The micronutrients contained in yeast are also very good for a healthy and basic diet.

Acne in School Medicine: Antibiotics and “Master Propper”

In the case of acne, antibiotics are often prescribed by school medical doctors . This is to be used to expel the bacteria appearing in acne. Of course, one knows that the bacteria are not the cause for acne, but that they are only the symptom picture of acne.

Since, however, you have no other idea what else you could do, antibiotics are prescribed as usual.

With great luck, acne can be put into the fleeing – usually (if at all) only briefly and in any case with the antibiotikatypische side effects, namely possible digestive disturbances and the impairment of the intestinal flora.

However, since an intact intestinal flora is very closely related to the skin’s health, the sensibility of such a therapy may be called into question.

Conventional acne products which are to be applied externally, on the other hand, are often so strong that they can certainly be used excellently for scrubbing a garage floor, but not for the care of a highly irritated and sensitive skin.

The holistic acne concept, on the other hand, is gentle and effective at the same time. It is worth it! Choose the elements that are right for you and start 🙂

Acne – The holistic therapy

The holistic acne therapy consists of several areas:

  • Restore the hormonal balance using the following measures
  • Construction of the intestinal flora and remediation of the digestive system
  • Inhibition of chronic inflammation
    1. with antibacterial external measures,
    2. with an increased intake of antioxidants and
    3. an anti-inflammatory diet
  • Relief of the body with the help of a deacidification or purification
  • Supply of the necessary nutrients and vital substances by means of a basic or basic excess
  • Proper skin care
